Joliet Central Band’s “Buy the Sound” Campaign for New Band Works
The Joliet Central Band is proud to announce the “Buy the Sound” campaign for commissioning new band music. The Commissioning Project will include an original composition written for the Joliet Central Band. The Joliet Central Symphonic Band will perform the world premiere of this piece with the composer conducting in a public concert held at the historic Joliet Township High School, Central Campus. Band students will have the opportunity to work with the composer in the rehearsal process prior to the concert, and students will gain insight and experience into the music composition process. All sheet music will include the band’s name under the title, and the composition will be available for other bands to perform following the world premiere.
For the inaugural composition, we have chosen 1995 Joliet Central alumnus Jermaine Stegall. Read about jermaine below.

ABOUT THE BAND
The Joliet Township High School Band, later the Joliet Central High School Band, is one of the most historically significant high school band programs in the country. Established in 1912, the band program has had only five directors in the history of the school, and has served the musical needs of thousands of students. Joliet’s nickname is “The City of Champions,” derived from the numerous awards and accolades earned by the band, including National Championships judged by John Philip Sousa and presidential performances, an engagement with the Rockettes in New York, performing at the very first Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, and numerous appearances at the University of Illinois Superstate Festival. Students in the band enjoy opportunities in concert band, symphonic band, marching band, jazz band, jazz combo, pep band, and chamber ensembles. Recent accolades of the band include performing at the Chicagoland Invitational Concert Band Festival, being named a recipient of the 2017 Music in Our Schools Tour sponsored by the Give a Note Foundation, and invitations to the 2017 and 2018 University of Illinois SuperState Band Festival.
