Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will I be playing in front of the whole band?!
A: No – you will be playing your part in an upstairs practice room for a digital recorder. You will be in the only one in your room.
Q: What if I’m new and the part is very difficult?
A: Practice! However, I also understand that some of the parts can be challenging for newcomers. Play what you can play, and that is what will be assessed.
Q: If I mess up, can I start over?
A: If you mess up or make an error, go on. Chances are the mistake was not as big of a deal as you thought it was! However, if students are caught tampering with the recorder or doing a second take, the placement will not be counted.
Q: Do I have to play an assessment/placement?
A: Yes – this is a part of everyone’s grade, and all students must submit a performance, even if you are the only one in my section.
