We tried something new this summer with our June camps, focusing mainly on chamber music and technique instead of exclusively marching band music. Our percussionists are working in a setting much like a percussion methods course. We worked on mallet technique (four mallets), timpani tuning and care, and today we introduced drum set. We’re working towards a more “complete percussionist.” Some show and tell for the end of the week; the drum set ended up being something that many of our members were nervous about!
"Backstage" at the Holly Club Lawn Party at the Jacob Henry Mansion. Our big band had their first gig of the year immediately after our chamber camp this morning. Getting our community service in early!
